Changing Account Name - Guild Wars Forums

Hi everyone,

The email address that my account is linked to was hacked not long ago so I don't have access to it any more, so I was just wondering if it was possible to change your account name or even email address that GW is associated with?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

No, not your account name, but you CAN change the e-mail linked to your account.

Once you change the linked e-mail, I wouldn't worry about your GW account name floating out there anymore, Just use yourself a nice non-dictionary, non-common password and you'll be fine. Lots of people know my GW account name, but I've yet to have a problem from it.

Cant you change it from your NCsoft account by updating your account information.

In fact, you must have a valid e-mail address linked to your account in order to change passwords, etc. Many people overlook this and QQ when things get sent to their old e-mail/accountname.
(You may need to set up an NCsoft account and link GW to it.)

i thought u couldnt change ur email linked on ur gw account. if u sent up a plaync accnt for ur gw accnt

Some people do get confused about that. You can't change your GW account name - which looks like an e-mail address, but may not be valid any longer. But, you can (and should) change the e-mail address linked to your account, to a valid one.

It would have been when you originally created the account, but now you can change your contact email but your 'username' that you use to login to the game will still remain the same.

Not at this time, I believe it may be possible to contact support and they may be able to change it but generally people can't change it. It doesn't really matter what the address is anyway. You can change your contact email and password so it isn't really necessary.

Think of it this way - if you got a dog and named it "[email protected]", "[email protected]" would just be the dog's name, and when you called the dog, you wouldn't be e-mailing it.

But no, there is no way to change your "account name".

Hes right, it's just an account name that includes a @ and a .

Anet even said at one time, they don't care if the email used is totally bogus and changed after you fully create the account, that will remain your login name as a piece of text with two "special" symbols in it (@ .).

I just changed my login e-mail account 2 days ago. I logged into the game and before hitting play there is a option you can click on. You need to know your old and new e-mail address. Since your old address is no longer available you will need to wait 7 days for the change to take effect. During that time continue using your old e-mail.

This should work if you have not associated your GW account with a PlayNC Master Account. You should be able to change the e-mail address & login e-,mail used via the game login screen/menu..

However, if you have associated your game to a PlayNC Master Account, you will not be able to change your GW login e-mail. You can still change the contact e-mail address to whatever you want... so if your login was [email protected] and you changed e-mail to [email protected].. your GW login would stay [email protected], but you could change the e-mail address all correspondence gets sent to.. to [email protected].

You can't change your GW account name - which looks like an e-mail address, but may not be valid any longer. But, you can (and should) change the e-mail address linked to your account, to a valid one.
